Located at the end of the Lauter valley, Wissembourg originated in Roman times and developed from a 7th-century Benedictine abbey. Some sights include the church of St-Pierre-et-Paul, completed in the 14th century, the second largest church in Bas-Rhin after the cathedral in Strasbourg, la Maison du Sel, the 18th-century town hall, le Palais Stanislas, the ramparts and the picturesque district of Le Bruch with important old houses.
Hunsbach and Seebach are 2 fine examples of neighbouring villages that are part of the ‘Villages blancs’ of northern Alsace. Here you will find the typical architecture of white half-timbered houses some still with the wooden ‘roof tiles’ and in season mostly ‘decorated’ with flowering plants. Seebach is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Alsace.
The train station is within walking distance from the apartment and by train you can be in Strasbourg, the beautiful capital of the region located on the Rhine, with a culture and architecture with both German and French influences, within an hour.
